Emily works as an engagement manager on the Africa Team, leading GHV’s work with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Africa PAC team. Within this portfolio, Emily supports strategic planning around the Africa Regional Offices’ policy and advocacy efforts at the global, continental, and national levels. She has also supported the Gates Foundation’s Kenya Country Engagement Plan, Indonesia Country Strategy, and Asia Pacific Malaria Strategy.
Emily has nearly 20 years of experience in development policy and government relations and brings strong communication, strategic planning, and project management skills to her work.
Prior to GHV, Emily served as the U.S. policy director at the ONE Campaign where she managed the development of all key U.S. market policy positions and worked on a range of issues including gender, economic growth, global health, development finance, and energy poverty. Earlier in her career, Emily worked in the Africa Directorate at the White House National Security Council covering a variety of policy areas including trade, economic growth, and global health.
Emily authored the case study CGD and the Creation of a New US International Development Finance Corporation. While at ONE she co-authored the 2015 Poverty is Sexist report.
Emily holds an MA in world politics from the Catholic University of America and a BA in political science from Miami University.
Emily’s husband is a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army, and they reside wherever the Army sends them, currently in Columbus, GA. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and baking.
