As a senior consultant, Akachi Mbogu works with the Africa Program, Advocacy, and Communications (Africa PAC) Team at the Gates Foundation. Within this team, Akachi brings strategic thought partnership, technical advisory, research, data-driven analysis, project management, policy advocacy, stakeholder management, and partnership building expertise to advance the portfolio on Breakthrough Goals, specifically Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and Multilateral Development Banks (MDB).
With 13+ years of experience in health system strengthening (HSS), health policy, immunization, and primary health care (PHC), Akachi specializes in strategic planning, grant management, financial oversight, knowledge management, and organizational capacity building. She has led high-impact initiatives, applying monitoring & evaluation (M&E), digital transformation, and change management to strengthen healthcare systems.
Previously, Akachi was a senior program manager at CHAI, leading Gates Foundation-funded programs to expand access to life-saving vaccines and improve health system resilience. She has extensive experience in government stakeholder engagement and relations, excelling in managing partnerships with policymakers, donors, and multilateral organizations to drive health reforms.
Akachi holds a BSc in anatomy from the University of Port-Harcourt, Nigeria, an MPH from Glasgow Caledonian University, United Kingdom, and an MBA from the Universidad Católica de Murcia in Spain. Akachi received specialized training in supply chain management from the Chartered Management Institute, UK, and holds a leadership in management certification from the University of Washington.
Having lived or worked across Africa, United Kingdom, and Europe, Akachi is passionate about mentorship, capacity building, and cross-cultural leadership. She enjoys traveling, connecting with people, and spending time with family.
