As a senior communications consultant, Melanie works with GHV's Operations Team guiding, evolving, and operationalizing marketing and communications strategies that support GHV's organizational goals.

Melanie has 20 years of experience as a social sector marketing and communications leader working primarily in education and public/global health. Her skills include strategic communications, brand development, digital marketing, storytelling, media engagement, curriculum development and delivery, and writing and editing. She is passionate about building marketing and communications functions and brands that drive impact.

Previously, Melanie served in executive and senior leadership roles for education INGO Worldreader; the East Africa Preterm Birth Initiative at the University of California, San Francisco, an MNCH research initiative and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation grantee; and education nonprofit Breakthrough Collaborative. She also serves as a board member of Leap Arts in Education. For 20 years, Melanie served as a senior lecturer in the English Department at San Francisco State University.

Melanie holds an MA in English literature from San Francisco State University and a BFA in visual arts from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCUarts). She has worked in Kenya, Rwanda, Spain, Uganda, and the United States. She currently resides in California.

Outside of work, Melanie enjoys spending time with her family and dog in the Bay Area's beautiful natural spaces, visiting museums, and seeing live music.
